THE MONTH IN REVIEW
AE Fallball ended with the AE Prospects finishing
10-9-1 with their young squad. 2010 Armando Salgado (St. Pats) and 2010 Jose Castro (St. Pats) earned roster
spots on the Nationals for 2010. Salgado hit for power and won 2 games on the mound while Castro pitched solid in relief and
played a stellar thirdbase. Castro also had 2 late-inning game-tying hits. 2010 Christian Rivera (ND) paced
the offense with an OB of over .600 and 20 runs scored. 2011 Jon Brandel (GBN) earned a job behind the dish for
the Nationals after managing the young AE staff brilliantly. 2011 Dan Mayzel (Deerfield) has started hitting for
power to go with his 7.0 (60) speed. 2010 Mack Mondala (ND) and 2010 Jeremy Tirado (St. Pats) were spectacular
on the left side of the infield while 2011 David Stillerman (Evanston) looks to be an impact player this summer.
Highlights on the mound included 2011 Stuart Haley (New Trier) and 2011 LHP's John Spolestra (Cary Grove) and Adam McClure
(Notre Dame). 2011 Eric West (New Trier) emerged as a legitimate defender at first base to go along with his power bat
and 2011 Patrick Rahill's (Loyola Academy) timely hitting has become a presence in the AE lineup.
The AE Varsity was paced offensively
by 2010 Will Hrabe (NTHS), 2012 Brett Slager (Maine South) and 2011 Charlie Apfelbach (GBN) and defensively by Charlie
Apfelbach (GBN) and shortstop 2011 Sam Thomas (New Trier). Advancing deeper into the playoffs this season after
posting their second consecutive winning record, the AE Varsity will see many players including LJ Haboush, Peter McNitt and
Adam Becker find time on the summer tours in the future.
